Mediocre Bad Guys began in the fall of 2005 when three friends and music buffs in Mount Airy NC started jamming on some Jack Johnson tunes. Soon MBG secured a few gigs at a local coffee house, attracting larger crowds and a steadier following. With Slate’s vocals hinting convincingly at Johnson’s without appearing to imitate, Mediocre Bad Guys were on their way. Over the years the band’s lineup has evolved, with drummer Les Slate and bass player Chapman remaining at the foundation. In 2007 Steve Lindsley joined in on keyboard, guitar/mandolin and vocals; and a year later Doug Davis on guitar, keyboard and vocals. Their repertoire has also expanded to include classic hits from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s – everything from Tom Petty to Counting Crows to….well, you name it, they pretty much play it. To date MBG has delighted audiences at both premier nightclubs, festivals, and private parties all across the Triad of North Carolina and beyond. And as they have twice before, they will share the stage at BudBreak with Bobby Keys, the saxophone player for the world-renowned Rolling Stones.
